Evergreen Elementary School hosted its highly anticipated Third Annual STEAM Night on February 25, drawing more than 50 families for an evening filled with hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) activities. The event provided a unique opportunity for more than 140 students and parents to explore, create, and discover together in an engaging, interactive setting.

A Night of Exploration and Innovation
Two students show off their harmonicas.
Families were invited to move through a variety of activity stations, each designed to inspire curiosity and problem-solving. The cafeteria buzzed with excitement as students constructed imaginative structures with bricks and magnetic tiles, launched handmade catapults, and experimented with Sphero Indi Cars, learning how color sensors influence robotic movement. One of the most popular activities was the harmonica-making station, where children crafted their own instruments from popsicle sticks and rubber bands to take home.

In the gymnasium, students experienced robotics in action by operating VEX IQ and VEX Go robots, challenging themselves to maneuver objects using robotic arms. At the Sphero Ball Coding station, older elementary students tackled programming tasks, coding spherical robots to complete precise movements. Meanwhile, families took part in a heart rate activity, measuring their resting and active heart rates to explore the connection between exercise and cardiovascular health.
The art room was a hive of activity
The art room encouraged creativity with activities such as the “Finish the Picture” contest, where participants were given a partial drawing and challenged to think outside the box to complete it. Other stations included penny spinners, which combined art and physics, and crayon rubbings, allowing students to experiment with texture and design.
A Commitment to STEAM Education
Over the past three years, Evergreen has invested more than $20,000 in STEAM equipment, ensuring students have access to cutting-edge technology and hands-on learning experiences. These investments have allowed the district to expand its offerings in robotics, coding, engineering challenges, and scientific exploration—giving students the tools they need to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The success of STEAM Night highlights Evergreen’s commitment to fostering a love for STEAM education by making learning fun and accessible. Events like these not only strengthen students' academic skills but also encourage family engagement in the learning process.
As STEAM education continues to grow in importance, Evergreen remains dedicated to providing opportunities for hands-on exploration, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills they need for the future. With the overwhelming enthusiasm from families and staff, this annual event is sure to continue inspiring young minds for years to come.
